Things we wish we knew…
After standing alongside many couples as they say “I do”, I’ve noticed a few things that many couples say they wish they’d known before they started planning their special and exciting wedding day. Hindsight is always a great things! Here are some tips if you’re planning your wedding day.
The day goes faster than you can imagine! Take time to enjoy the planning process - it’s all part of your special day. On the day take moments just to pause and soak it in. The little moments become the treasured memories.
Your wedding doesn’t have to please everyone. As you justle and manage expectations from family and friends, remember it is your wedding. While it is lovely to consider everyone, the decisions should reflect who you are as a couple and your dreams.
Budgets need a buffer! The future you will be grateful, if you have a wee slush fund for the unexpected and last-minute pop-up expenses!
Set your priorities. What are the three most important things to you on your wedding day? Heartfelt vows? Amazing photos? Great food? An unforgettable ceremony? Looking and feeling absolutely gorgeous? The guests you share the day with? Knowing what’s important to you will help guide your decisions.
Wedding planning is a team sport. Check in with each other regularly - are you sharing the decision and keeping the wedding planning fun rather than stresful?
Your vows matter more than you realise. The vows are often the most emotional and memorable moments of the ceremony. Give yourselves plenty of time to reflect on and write what you want to say to each other.
Enjoy being engaged! Your engagement period is a special chapter all on its own. Celebrate the milestones.
Your wedding day is one day - your marriage is the adventure that follows that day!
