Tradition in full bloom !

Ever wondered why brides carry bouquets of fresh flowers? The wedding bouquet is steeped in centuries of history, symbolism and is an evolving tradition!

The earliest bouquets were garlands made of herbs and spices - often rosemary, dill or garlic - believed to ward of evil spirits and bring fertility.

During medieval times, these gave way to fragrant herbs and blooms thought to purify the air and mask less pleasant odours! Carrying fresh greenery also symbolised hope and new beginnings.

The bouquet as we know it blossomed during the Victorian era - an age where there was a language of flowers - every bloom carried a secret meaning. Queen Victoria and Prince Albert married in 1840…Queen Victoria carried a bouquet of myrtle and orange blossoms, a royal trend still followed today.

What about the modern bouquet? Bouquets are canvas for personal expression. From rustic wildflowers, native greenery to elegant roses. The options are endless. Family traditions can be woven into bouquets now, such as a ribbon from a mother’s gown.

The bouquet toss - what is that about? This adds a playful twist! Once a way of sharing good luck it is now a fun moment during the reception.
